You Have NJ Flood Insurance, Now What?
A flood washed through your home and destroyed a good amount of your possessions. So now what? Of course, you are prepared with flood insurance, NJ, but it is not as simple as that. There are a few things that need to be done in order to fix the damages. Here are a few tips to get the process moving…
#1: Photographic proof. Be sure to take photographs of all the damages, especially items that must be thrown out. If you do not have the proof, you may not get them replaced!
#2: Contact your agent immediately. It’s important to call in your claim as soon as possible. This will get the ball rolling! At this time, your insurance agent will prepare a Notice of Loss form for you and an adjuster will be sent to your home to check out the damages.
#3: Prepare for the adjuster. If possible, have the damaged materials separated from the rest. If not, make notes so you do not forget to look at anything.
#4: Organization is best. Keep a record of the items that are damaged- bonus points if you have the original receipts to the damaged items. The more information you can give the adjuster, the better chance you have to replace items properly.
This process may seem like a hassle, but once you get on the phone with your insurance agent, it will be pretty simple! The main priority here is to actually have flood insurance. NJ residents who do not have coverage will not be able to replace their possessions as easily as this. Replacing them will come with a huge price!
